Therapy Services for Children & Teens
"We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future." Franklin D. Roosevelt
I provide a safe space where children and teenagers can learn skills for identifying and expressing their feelings. I provide services for issues such as anxiety, low self-esteem, and depression. For younger children, our work together may include forms of play; with teenagers, the work often focuses on increasing a positive sense agency and a self-identified value system. Therapy is not a substitute for a relationship with a parent, so I also include caregivers by providing them with information to assist them in being helpful in the context of the parent-child relationship.
My goal when providing therapy to families that include children or teenagers is to help enhance the relationships between all members rather than focus on each person's individual happiness. My work with families often focuses on breaking unhealthy communication habits and increasing positive connections. This mode of therapy may be most appropriate when the problems of one family member are impacting the way the entire family functions.
